The old Burger King (501 G St NW) closed some time ago to be replaced temporarily by BicycleSpace. Now moving in is Bantam King from the owners of nearby Daikaya. The liquor license application notice went up recently and we took notice.
The application notice reads “A Total Occupancy Load of 70” for a “New Restaurant” serving “Japanese cuisine with an assortment of side dishes.”

Next Thursday, December 17, the Freer Gallery (Jefferson and 12th Sts, SW) will open the shutters of the recently restored Peacock Room one last time before the entire gallery closes for renovations (re-opening expected in 2017). Be sure to stop by and check out James McNeill Whistler’s “harmony in blue and gold.”
Pepco And Exelon Citywide Town Hall Meeting Tonight 12/8 (Howard Theatre, 620 T St NW)
Exelon and Pepco, both power companies, proposed to merge into a single company with Pepco’s being acquired by Exelon. Exelon’s headquarters is in Chicago and Pepco is the homegrown DC utility serving all of DC and portions of Maryland abutting DC. Pepco’s headquarters is in our own Penn Quarter neighborhood at the corner of 9th and G St NW above Zaytinya.
The first attempt at getting clearance for the merger did not pass DC’s Public Service Commission hearing so now they’re going for round two after the utility’s changing the deal and getting the endorsement of DC’s Mayor. Not everyone in the city government, including four city Council members, is in favor of the merger. While we aren’t commenting on the merger, we do want to let readers know about the moderated Town Hall meeting open to the public tonight as below:
PEPCO AND EXELON CITYWIDE TOWN HALL MEETING
