Hands On Maker Technology At DCPL Holiday Happy Hour Tomorrow Night – Dec 4 (MLK Library Dream Lab)
We learned about a great evening event at the MLK Library’s Dream Lab (9th and G St NW) showcasing the Dream Lab which is a “maker” lab available for public use. On to the details:
Create, Drink, and Be Merry at DCPL Holiday Happy Hour
Sip cocktails and make 3-D scanned portraits, laser-cut lanterns, mason jar snow globes (and more!) with DCPL’s state-of-the-art technology.
On Friday, December 4th at 5:30pm the DC Public Library will host a Holiday Happy Hour where all in attendance can sip craft cocktails while making a gift for a loved one (or themselves). The evening, which will be held in the Dream Lab at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, will give guests a chance to use state-of-the-art technology such as 3-D printers, laser cutters and DI-Wires. Those skills will be taught by Billy Friebele and Mike Lacovone, the two artists heading up the library’s Maker-in-Residence Program.
Guest will have the opportunity to make items such as 3-D scanned portraits, laser-cut lanterns, mason jar snow globes and DI-Wire accessories. The Holiday Happy Hour has a suggested donation price of $35. That money will go to support library programs that bridge the digital and economic divide, promote early literacy and summer reading, and celebrate the District’s cultural vibrancy. Tickets for the happy hour can be purchased here.

cove Launches ‘Cove Presents’…1st Session Thu, 12/3 Evening
The newest business in the neighborhood, cove (829 7th St NW), is launching a new panel series called ‘cove presents‘. Each month, cove will convene top innovators and change makers from different industries in the DC tech scene to share their insights, challenges and predictions first-hand. Unlike a traditional pitch night, cove wants to facilitate conversations, expose information, and provide a forum to ask questions and support local pioneers.
The first panel, ‘cove presents: the sharing economy,’ will take place on Thursday, December 3 from 6 pm – 8 pm at cove 7th St (829 7th St NW). It is free and open to the public. More information about the series, the first panel (including the panelists), and how to RSVP is available at www.cove.is/presents.
