The Penn Quarter In & Out List For 2012

Posted by Columbo
January 5, 2012

We’ve fought the urge for years to publish an in & out list, not wanting to offend. But for 2012 we decided our New Year’s Resolution would be to finally publish a list, and hope the outs know we still love them and that there is always next year. So without further adieu, the first annual PQ Living In & Out List for the New Year.

What’s Out?

What’s In!

  1. Running on a Treadmill Watching the Kardashians
  2. Oysters From Old Ebbitt Grill
  3. Beer at RFD
  4. Mild Winters
  5. Spicy Meatball Pizza at Matchbox (you’ll always be my first love)
  6. $15 Glasses of Wine at Graffiato (we’ll be sticking to beer from now on)
  7. Lobbyists
  8. Filene’s
  9. Tulip Glasses
  10. The 9th Street Tunnel (Literally)
  11. Leggings (as pants, specifically)

  13. Moving to the Burbs to have Kids
  14. The Pocket Square
  15. Buying Prints From the National Gallery of Art
  16. Caucus Room
  17. Washington Post Style Section (Yes, we recognize the irony)

  19. Blondes (excluding SB, of course)
  1. Running with the Monuments watching the Sunrise
  2. Sushi from The Hamilton
  3. Beer at District of Pi
  4. Freezing Cold Miserable Awful Winters (rethinking #1)
  5. Porky’s Revenge Pizza at Graffiato
  6. $15 Bottles of Wine at Zola Wine & Kitchen
  7. Librarians
  8. Anthropologie
  9. The Champagne Coupe (although we discovered these spill a lot more…)

A fun piece to read. However, in two instances you had selections on the Out list from restaurants that were not around in December 2010/January 2011 when an a new In List would have been drawn up that today would be the January 2012 Out list. So it seems there is a bit of cheating here.

I would have put Fiola’s lobster ravioli on the In list and some other lobster dish from an older restaurant (or a grocer) on the Out list. Seems unfair to sneak in a couple of new restaurants (Fiola and Graffiato) to the Out list, given they are really new to the ‘hood.

Great list! But Librarians have always been in!

Obviously you don’t have children. People don’t move to the burbs to have children. People move to the burbs after they have children, once they realize that’s the only way they can get an education (unless you’re rich). I guess putting “moving to the burbs to provide your children an acceptable education” on the out list doesn’t sound as good though.
