Penn Quarter Offices Attracting Protests
Photo credit: zombieite, a protest in NYC
In the past, protests in the District against corporate or government offices were mostly limited to areas west (K Street) or south (National Mall) of Penn Quarter. But now that Penn Quarter is finding itself home to an increasing number of lobbying offices, it seems as though Penn Quarter residents should be prepared for an increased number of protests in the neighborhood against those offices.
For example, today (July 5, 2011) from 4-6pm (pdf), attendees of the Jobs with Justice National Conference have a protest scheduled to occur outside Walmart’s lobbying office at 701 8th St NW. We’re hoping that the protest contains itself to the relatively benign 8th St.
As a bonus for the conference goers, the 6-9pm block of time following the protest is designated for “Dining on your own” and what better location to find yourself hungry than 7th Street in Gallery Place?

What in the world are they protesting?
