Picture Of The Week: otavio_dc
This picture of the week is brought to us by otavio_dc. otavio’s description of the image is also compelling: This is the pedestrian walkway in between Gallery Place and the Verizon Center in downtown DC. I really like the permanent kiosks here. Their presence helps to enliven this space at all times of the day and night.
Welcome back to DC, otavio!

very attractive, we need more of these up into the mt vernon neighborhood near the convention center.
Richard, I couldn’t agree more!! That would be GREAT, and help to liven up the new convention center area…..
I’d add that pedestrian malls are an integral part of a walking and thriving cityscape. If I can take everyone to the other side of the world, the core downtown areas of every large Australian city have pedestrian malls which breed commerce, value and jobs. As the English would say, it’s smashing.
Thanks for plugging my photo, GPLiving!
I wanted to illustrate what Washington, DC definitely needs more of. I believe DC has the capacity for more engaging and architecturally pleasing kiosks around the city, especially permanent ones like what are shown in this photo. We have wide enough sidewalks in some areas to support that. I wrote a lengthy message to the DC government about the sad state of kiosks, both permanent and mobile in this city. I even offered to send them some photo examples from cities around the world of how successful and interesting kiosks should look like. Akridge/Western Development did a wonderful job on these particular kiosks.
And, I do see that the big kiosk is still vacant. Somebody else besides me should be wanting this space by now!
pqresident is right also. More, more, more!
And, yes…..I am so glad to be back in DC, if only for a little while.
So many things to do, so little time.
