RSS Feed915 F St NW (Platinum/Museum) Now In Jemal’s Hands?
We received a tip that 915 F St NW is now in the hands of local developer Douglas Jemal. A quick walk over to the location revealed a Douglas Development banner hanging from the building so we’re going to mark this tip off as true. A quick review of the building’s history reminds us that it’s had multiple names as a nightclub including The Fifth Column, The Bank, Platinum, Club Bounce, and Museum. For those who want to relive the Fifth Column days, there is a Facebook page for club alumni. We’re not sure what the next name will be, but we’d like to propose Downtownland. What one of a kind retail do you think would work in this space?

Armani should snatch this building up. The Emporio in SF is housed in a beautiful old bank. I love the contrast of cutting edge fashion with 1915 era architecture.
I think it would be a great idea for the Bodega – it’s large so they could offer more. I mean let’s face it after waiting this long for a grocerry store and having to put up with CVS and Safeway for so long we all know we have visions of suger plumbs (and butchers, late night deli’s, fresh produce and pasta, a cafe, large beer (microbrews and growlers) and wine section, new york style amazingness, local/regional fresh offerings) dancing in our heads – so all that requires space and, feeling rather greedy, I hope the Bodega uses it!!
There’s a lot of work (demolition?) going on inside the space the past few days. Here’s a photo (my window looks out over the back side of the building):

It seems odd that they’d be doing so much work if they don’t know who will be leasing the space, doesn’t it?
There have also been several different groups of people touring the space (I’ve seen them up on the roof) in the past couple of weeks.
Work being done doesn’t surprise me – That building has been a club for so long I am sure it needs a lot of work inside to make it even remotely presentable to a retail tennant.
My prediction is Apple is going into City Center. Awhile back the leasing agent for the site was quoted in an article saying they will have a “signature electronics retailer”. I think that is a field of one.
An Apple store in that location would have to put locks on every product in the store to avoid all the Gallery Place kids from turning it into shoplifting paradise.
The work going on *is* surprising because the space was just recently completely & beautifully renovated. It was open for about one week at “The Museum” – it was impeccable. So, all this demo of brand new and unused construction before they even know who’s going to lease it is odd.

The Apple stores I have been in in the area – Georgetown, Pentagon City and Bethesda Row do, in fact, have locks on all the products. I guess the Gallery Place kids get around.
