Potato Valley Cafe To Open Soon!
Cheryl writes in to let us know that Potato Valley Cafe (approx. 616 E St NW) is expected to open in about two months. They will start out with hours that extend into the evening to gauge foot traffic.
Our guess is that if there isn’t much demand in the evening, they will scale back hours for just the office crowd.

yeah, I read that Amsterdam Falafel is looking to open another place… It should be in the Penn Quarter, for sure.
I hope PVC has thought of signage. They are kind of tucked away in the Clara Barton, and in a bit of an urban black hole. They’ll be pretty much the only ground-floor retail on that block, not counting Starbucks and Juan Valdez on 7th Street or the police memorial gift shop in AARP. They’re almost destined to be a lunch-only place serving the many huge offices around there.
The location is in a tough spot, almost as bad as the tanning salon on 7th St between The Lafayette and DOJ ENRD building. I have doubts as to the viability of either of those small businesses. In my opinion, forget about vegetarian baked potato, somebody open a reasonably-priced diner with quality food.
I thought I heard that, due to the somewhat historic nature of the storefronts in the Clara Barton, the tenants were pretty restricted in their signage/storefront designs. At least that seemed to be the case on the 7th St side. If true, that may hinder Potato Valley from t rying to get more 7th St foot traffic, but I truly hope it does well.
I must say that I’m awkwardly awaiting the arrival of Potato Valley… though a carb-filled heart attack waiting to happen, I can’t wait for a fully loaded baked tater…
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
I think there’s plenty of demand for late evening food. I’m not sure people want a loaded baked potato after a night at the bars, but maybe it’ll work. I would love something like Amsterdam Falafel (in Adams Morgan) or maybe a late night Pommes Frittes place with an array of dipping sauces. Just no jumbo slice, please. Good luck Potato Valley!
