PQ Building Permit Update

on 750 3rd Street, unloading steel from 5 am to 9 pm on Saturdays AND Sundays only?!?! really??? not sure how I’d feel if I lived at Mass Court right next door with a bunch of crane tower erectors and steel clanging around at 5 in the morning on the weekend for a month.

actually, I am sure how I’d feel. ticked off if it disturbed my weekend beauty sleep.

I live at Mass Court and that is an absurd time to allow any loud activity. Am I correct in my assumption that these are already approved permits? My search on dc.gov was not so fruitful.

This is an approved permit, however it is never too late to get building management engaged to lobby for adjusting the hours.

A lot (rather, most) of the time, DCRA approves permits without regard to residents living in the vicinity of the construction site.

It looks like all they’re doing is putting a crane together. The loudest thing you’ll hear is the engine of the temporary crane they use to construct the larger one.

If they issue a permit for pile driving at 5am, then you should complain.

FWIW, they usually build these cranes at a decent hour, like from 8am on.

if they truly didn’t think they’d need to start work at 5 am at least once, they would have requested a 7 or 8 am start time.

Ugh–no more pile driving ever again. We live in 400 Mass Ave and dealt with it through the building of the Dumont, Sonata, and Madrigal Lofts. The permit allowed them to start at 7 am and literally, at 7 am sharp (sometimes 6:59) it would start. I didn’t even need to set my alarm since it was as if someone was clanking two metal pipes together in my bedroom! And once they finished one of those buildings the next one started.
What I didn’t understand was by the time I left for work (8:45-ish) they stopped for the day. It really would’ve been more considerate if they could’ve waited to start that until a more reasonable hour. Just my two cents worth.

Anyone know when the original permit to start construction was granted and made public? I couldn’t find it on dcra’s website.

2) in the bottom left, click on ‘View the List of Approved Permits’
3) it will open a 400+ page Adobe PDF
4) search for ‘750 3rd’ and all the permits will pop out – at least 3 that I found quickly this morning
