PQ’s ESPN Zone To Close On June 16 (555 12th St NW)

Posted by gpliving
June 9, 2010

Thanks to Kevin for sending in a tip that PQ’s ESPN Zone (555 12th St NW) will be closing due to challenging market conditions.  As reported by the AP and WaBizJo, Walt Disney will be closing all ESPN Zones, except for the LA and Anaheim locations, on June 16.

Good riddance! It was an overpriced tourist trap with lousy food.

Comment by Zee on June 9, 2010 @ 5:12 pm

Unsurprising – that place was hella expensive & bad service.

Comment by Brian on June 9, 2010 @ 5:21 pm

I can’t say I’ll miss this place; only ate there once and the prices were absurd considering the mediocre food. But the last thing downtown needs is another empty storefront – particularly one this large. I hope something better comes along quickly. But I’m not optimistic.

Comment by DCZen on June 9, 2010 @ 5:43 pm

Hmmm wonder if we can hope for the same from the Hard Rock Cafe?

Comment by pqresident on June 9, 2010 @ 5:45 pm

even though I live downtown, only ate there once. average bar food was my experience. the space is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside.

Enough space for a grocery store? :)

Comment by Cheryl on June 9, 2010 @ 7:58 pm

Here we go again.
Wonder if they have a loading dock which as we know is necessary for grocery stores.

And dedicated parking

Comment by Downtown Dave on June 10, 2010 @ 8:06 am

Not a grocery store — more likely a Dave and Busters or, perhaps, a Nordstroms Rack — we’ll see soon enough.

Comment by BW on June 10, 2010 @ 8:33 am

The food WAS definitely horrible, so there is no loss there. I have to admit, though, that my young out-of-town nephews loved the games. I could sit at the bar while they were safely entertained down below. It worked for me. My prediction for a replacement: Nordstrom Rack.

TJ MAXX would be perfect. Weren’t they talking about putting one in the Borders space at some point in the future?

Comment by Anonymous on June 10, 2010 @ 10:35 am

It would be perfect for a brewery since there is a lot of space, maybe a nice micro-brew could set up shop?

Comment by Anonymous on June 10, 2010 @ 7:45 pm

I think a museum with maybe, I don’t know, 3 dance floors, would be a great new concept.

Comment by pqresident on June 11, 2010 @ 1:30 am

this WBJ article speculates on future use of the space – the key word being speculates. DC’s ESPN Zone opened in 2000.

Can’t “Buster’s Dave” stay in the surburbs where it belongs? House of Blues was interested in the area, why don’t they come downtown?

Comment by Cheryl on June 11, 2010 @ 12:21 pm

Ya know what, I just contacted House of Blues and let them know that ESPN Zone space is available. :)

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
