Retail News: Ledo’s Pizza, Zenith Gallery *updated*

Ledo’s Pizza

Everyone who’s walked the neighborhood knows about that three-story white brick townhouse sandwiched in between 455 Massachusetts Avenue, the recently completed office building and future home of Buddha Bar, and The Dumont (when, oh when, will we know the fate of our tenantless/ownerless Dumont condo?). It’s supposed to be a Ledo’s Pizza but it looks far from opening. PQ Living reader Cheryl checked in with Ledo’s management about the location, 433 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, and got an answer! They’re shooting for a May 2009 opening. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Hat tip to Cheryl for doing the leg work on this bit of news.

Zenith Gallery

The Zenith Gallery is on its final glide path for winding up its operations at 413 7th Street, NW with its last show and closing sale at that location. After March 7 March 29, Zenith will continue absent a storefront until the 5th and Eye project gets built where they plan to have their new home. Bargains are brisk as this writer found out when he stopped by over the weekend and inquired about a print. “How much off that fun looking print?” I asked. Fifty percent off was the answer – fifteen to seventy-five percent is the discount range being touted in the press release. A grand finale reception will be held at Zenith on Saturday, March 7 from 7 pm to 10 pm.

Are you sure about Ledo’s? They don’t have a building permit, they don’t even have a public space permit (although they have a fence in the public sidewalk) and they have no construction or demolition activity happening right now. I think it is a stretch to think that the permits can be pulled and construction started and completed in two months. I’ll believe it when I see it.

this is not based on permit activity that we know of. end of May could roll into June so that could be four months out and that’s what Ledo’s said they’re “shooting” for. as we concluded…your mileage may vary.

Its too bad they don’t open a shop right on 7th street with pizza slices for sale!

Comment by ChewyChomp on February 20, 2009 @ 4:17 pm

Mmmm…pizza slices but at the expense of attracting more riff-raffs crowding the sidewalks.

I just walked by the “Ledos” location. The fence has been moved a bit, the doorknob has been jimmied and the plywood moved away from the upstairs windows. There are definitely vagrants or worse using that place. Call Ledos management and get them to board that thing up securely.

Thanks for mentioning Zenith Gallery’s sale and moving from 7th Street.

We would appreciate a correction, however. Zenith closes its doors on March 29, not March 7 as stated in the item.

There will be a party on the 7th for patrons, artists, staff, and area residents who enjoy art.

Regards, Judith Keyserling, Communications Consultant, Zenith Gallery
