Shimba Hills Coffee Opens In Gallery Place!
Shimba Hills Coffee (601 F St NW) opened this weekend. Along with their coffees, the store also sells several flavors of gelato! Just looking at the gelato display makes the mouth water – it has an excellent presentation. The store was also fully staffed with about 5 employees behind the counter. It is interesting to read Shimba Hills’ website: they are the official coffee of the Verizon Center and have concession stands in the venue to attract additional customers. Teaming up with the Verizon Center makes us think that Shimba Hills knows how to run a successful business!

How are the prices? I’ll have to check it out. Although, it doesn’t look like much room in there. The Shimba Hills Web site touts a “coffee lounge” I wonder if they have Wi-fi. I was able to pick up a signal at Juan Valdez this weekend, no such luck at the Starbucks across the street.
I just stopped in for a latte–it was excellent. The owner and the employees are all friendly and helpful. They don’t make the gelato on site, but the sample tasted good.

I just had a latte and it was GOOD. Way closer to a real latte than starbucks.
Do you know where the gelato comes from? Do they make it?
