Fado Irish Pub (808 7th St NW; (202) 789-0066) wrote in to let us know about the St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser they are hosting this Saturday, March 10. Some events employ running or walking to raise money. For this event, you shave your head – the clipping begins at 3 pm.
What is St. Baldrick’s? The concept was born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1999 as the result of three friends who wanted to find a way to give back to society. A number of years later, events have taken place in 18 countries, 48 states and over $50 million has been raised thanks to more than 72,000 men and women willing to shave their heads. The mission of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is to raise awareness and funds to cure kid’s cancer by supporting cancer research and fellowships. Auction items and prizes include a 4 Disney Park Hopper passes accompanied by $800 in airfare vouchers from Southwest (silent auction), an autographed DC United Soccer Ball and tickets to a match, and gift certificates for area restaurants such as Jaleo, Carmine’s and Matchbox, as well as rafting and tubing day trips available as prizes.
