New Restaurants Coming To 7th and 9th Streets

Posted by pqresident
November 14, 2007

Two new restaurants are coming to the PQ. Both are being bankrolled by Oya at 777 9th Street, NW:

  • Sei, 444 7th Street, NW – Takeout sushi from the sushi chef at Perry’s (Adams Morgan).  (January 2008)
  • Ray, 901 9th Street, NW – Thought the space occupied by Pearl restaurant was dead? It’ll be coming back to life as a seafood oriented French restaurant with a 100 foot aquarium.  (April 2008)

We’d write up all the details but the above is from Tom Sietsema’s column in WaPo today so we’ll let him do the explaining.

Oya is opening Sei and Ray? Let’s see, they have 17,573 more three-letter combinations that they can use before they run out of restaurant names.

Is 444 7th Street the old Pua space?

I believe it is the old Pua space.

100 foot aquarium? Sounds like they’ll have ambiance, at least.

Speaking of sushi restaurants in PQ, wasn’t one supposed to be opening on H St. in one of the shuttered Chinese places?

Speaking of new commercial spaces in the neighborhood, does anyone know what’s going on at the old hardware store on D street between 7th and 8th? I know the Fringe Festival took it over temporarily. Is a store or something going in there?

last night, I walked by the old hardware store myself and wondered the same thing. the Jemal sign is gone and there is a massive square hole in the middle of the floor along with a mondo mound of excavated dirt. this is definitely a forlorn piece of real estate. I’ve always imagined it as a great night spot (jazz club, dance club…something with music).

Thanks for the info – just bought a place in the Clara Barton and am learning about the neighborhood. Does anyone know if there anything planned for the restaurant space at 7th and E that used to be a Juan Valdez cafe? Seems like a prime spot. Oh, and where do people grocery shop??? Wish the WF would come in…Thanks!

Welcome D!

I just moved into the CB about 3 weeks ago myself, so getting accustomed to the new neighborhood. You will find that grocery shopping is a bit of a problem here unfort.

I get my groceries delivered from Safeway personally. It feels lazy, but oh so convenient. Also, the CVS at 8th and E has little stuff if you are in a pinch…

I live in the CB also. I get groceries at the Safeway atop the Waterfront-SEU Metro stop (Green line), or Yes! Organic Market at Eastern Market (Eastern Market stop on the Blue/Orange lines or the 30 series Metrobuses from 7th & Penn to Eastern Market), or the Whole Foods atop the Tenleytown Metro stop (Red line), or the fabulous Van Ness Giant atop the Van Ness Metro stop (Red line).

Or sometimes I can bum a ride with a car-owning friend to the Whole Foods at 14th & P or the Harris Teeter at Pentagon Row. Otherwise, I have my little grocery cart and public transportation!

Oh, and for bread and cheese, it’s hard to beat a stroll to Cowgirl Creamery on F near 9th. You can get wine there too, or next door at Central Liquors.
