Ward 2 Candidate, Cary Silverman, Hosts PQ Event (2/13)

Posted by gpliving
February 11, 2008

Ed. Note: We will feature various local political candidates this election season.  Local, meaning Ward 2/6 Council and ANC 2C/6C Commissioner candidates.  If you are not sure which Ward or ANC you are in, please refer to this map.

Ward 2 candidate, Cary Silverman, will be hosting a meet & greet at the District Chophouse this Wednesday (2/13) from 6 – 9pm.  Silverman’s platform motto, Working for our neighborhoods first, takes aim at the incumbent’s part-time work status when it comes to Council duties.

Drinks and light appetizers served. First drink on the house. No minimum contribution required.

I’ve heard great things about this guy from neighbors to the north in Mt Vernon.

I will be there. No minimum — thats cool to see from a candidate.

I’m on the other side of the border in Ward 6 but will be there. Cary has shown a consistent commitment to the entire area and is action-oriented. He will be a Councilmember who communicates and who will hold himself accountable.

Cary was my ANC rep in Logan Circle and was excellent. He has my vote in the sept(?) primary.

He was always extremely motivated to find the best solution for everyone in the neighborhood and seemed tireless.

I now live in Penn Quarter and there is no way those dreadful audio billboards would have gone up if he was the council member.

I work with Cary for MVSNA & he rocks! Come on out to this event & please dont forget to vote!

Comment by Mike on February 11, 2008 @ 7:58 pm

I am glad Cary Silverman is reaching out to PQ voters. I wish our elected ANC representative would do the same. DC BOEE says former MD rep Charley Doctor is my rep but I havent seen or received anything from him in 2 elections.

I am a Cary volunteer because Cary cares and gets involved to help out in our community. We would have a say in our neighborhoods when he is elected WARD 2 Council Member. Please show Cary that you want to be involved in our neighborhoods to by voting for him; by coming out to his events and support him by $ and by volunteering.
Cary Cares!
Cary for Council!

I am excited that Cary is running for this. He is young and energetic just like our neighborhood. Even if you are a Jack Evans supporter this will be a good event to meet Cary and your neighbors. I hope to see you at the Chop House this Wednesday.

Get back Jack! Carry coming through!

Jack Evans, otherwise known as Mr. 42nd Street, is for the Billboards.
Cary Silverman is against the Billboards and for our community!

Cary! Cary! Cary!

Jack Evans is a personal friend & former neighbor of mine, but I know that 90% of his city council work is for wealthy people who really don’t need any help. By wealthy, I mean – well, if you have to ask, you don’t know those people.
I do not know Cary Silverman, but I hope his supporters realize that their pro Clinton comments give pause to those of us inclined to thinking about support him. Jack Evans should be replaced, but we’ll see if this is the year.
Meanwhile, is there any hope of replacing Carol Schwartz? She’s by far the worst of an exceedingly bad lot of city council members.

Joe,

Jack has done some good things for Ward 2 though not much in his current term. I think his time to move on to something else has come and have written clearly my reasons here including why he used to have my support:

Personally, I decided to support Cary after a lot of consideration and because I believe he will be a responsive Council Member interested in neighborhood issues.

Comment by Si Kailian on February 13, 2008 @ 11:56 am

Jack Evans is a Hillary Clinton supporter (as am I) i have no idea who Cary supports for prez but hes a Dem :) I dont think Clinton support should discount a Council candidate.

Carol Schwartz has a very intriguing opponent – Adam Clampitt.

Comment by Anon on February 13, 2008 @ 2:25 pm

I support Obama and I support Cary.
My neighbor supports Hillary and Cary.
Another neighbor supports McCain and Cary.
Cary is an awesome local candidate all on his own, not just in comparison to Evans.
What does who you support locally have to do with who you support nationly?

Comment by Anonymous on February 13, 2008 @ 3:22 pm

Cary is very involved and responsive, unlike jack.

Comment by Anon on February 13, 2008 @ 3:36 pm

Without Cary, we would never have shut down the crack-front that was Fun Fair.

One thing that makes Cary really stand out is that he will do the job full time, whereas jack Evans is only part time while collecting a big law firm paycheck (probably based at least in part on his political connections with big money interests). Cary is willing to quit his law firm job and devote himself full time to our ward. That is huge.

Comment by Cary Silverman on February 14, 2008 @ 11:45 am

I just wanted to thank everyone who made it out to the event at ChopHouse last night. We had a nice turnout with many Penn Quarter residents as well as from all over the Ward. I also appreciate all the kind comments posted on the blog. I’ve posted a few photos of the event here: http://caryforcouncil.org/campaign/index.php?blog=14
