What Will Hard Rock Display Next?

This isn’t a complaint, but Hard Rock has those great big windows on E ST which have two top tables above them. This windows have no display and the people sitting at those tables must be pressed for space; we like to play a game when we walk by to see what type of garbage or food service items have fallen from the tables above.
We admit it’s a better game in the summer time, when the tourists line up to get in and tables turn over more quickly. Still as these photos can attest, on any given day you can find a variety of items on display.

So, does this mean the Hard Rock Cafe is going to be part of the neighborhood? Until now, there has been nothing rockin’ about the place.
So when are the PQNA breakfasts and how do you get on the invite list? I have sent a couple emails to the email listed on the PQNA site over the last couple years, and have gotten no response. They also are not listed on the PQNA website.
I think they would get more support if they did a better job at communication, for starters (DNA does far better, even though their website is by no means high dollar).
email joann@pennquarter.org directly and ask to be included. the emails jo-ann sends every day go to every building in the neighborhood and should be passed along in some form by your management.
Kelly, I apologize for not having developed the PQNA website. When we first registered the domain name, I had figured out what to do, but it took lots of work on my part because no one yet had a web site and I had to write and photograph everything for each link. Needless to say, I never was able to even compile the information I then needed from all the residential buildings, as well as the cultural and business attractions inthe neighborhood. With all the other work I had, such as an economic study for the city to show that it would be feasible to renovate the vacant Mather building for residences, artist live-work units, and arts uses, I did not have time to finish the basic information we would then need.
Today I would do something different, but still have not found the time to think about what it should have vis-a-vis direct information versus links, how it should work and what with the lack of my technological skills and limited time, I can keep up with. Already I tend to work over 10 hours a day with that increasing before a breakfast meetings, the months before Arts on Foot, and now the Holiday Gala.
We email invitations for breakfast meetings to a distribution list I maintain as well as to the residential property managers/concierges, and condo board presidents (or their alternates), regardless if they are members of the Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association or not. In the email, I ask the property mgrs/concierges/board presidents to post the invitation or arrange to have the invitation posted in their building so that all the residents can see it and attend if they wish.
If you or anyone else reading this lives in Penn Quarter (south of NY Avenue to 8th, then south of Mass Avenue to 3rd or even north of it, if nearby) and wishes to be on my announcement and/or my invitation list, please email me at joann@PennQuarter.org and in the body of the text type in your name, the name of your residence (actual address optional), your email address (some addresses default to a name and I try to limit my need to type and make an error), and a home, office, or local cell number (please let me know which it is). If after being on this list you change your mind, you just have to email me and let me know that.
Please call me at 202.482.7271 if you have additional questions about Penn Quarter or about the PQNA. We have been around since 1988 and some of us have worked even before then to help create what is now here. Though our resources are limited and I am in the dark ages when it comes to technology or electronics, we love the neighborhood, are committed to its continuing improvement, and try the best we can to enhance the quality of life of those living, working, and just enjoying time in Penn Quarter.
Thanks for your response Jo-Ann. So are you saying that the west boundary is 8th, meaning the Artisan at 915 E Street is not within the PQNA boundaries? Even though it paid a $500 fee to join PQNA last year? Please clarify since the building will be deciding whether or not to join this year.
As a resident, I would most likely be against the building joining if the Artisan and it’s residents were not considered to be living within the PQNA boundaries.
Kelby, no, the Artisan is within the PQNA, because it is south of New York Avenue at a point between the NY Ave terminus (15th St) and the NY Ave intersection with Mass (8th St). Jo-Ann failed to mention (perhaps assuming it obvious) that President’s Park forms the western border and the Mall forms the southern border.
Kelby, Tom is almost right. The PQNA’s boundaries are Pa. Ave. on the south, 15th Street on the west. NY Avenue to Mt. Vernon Place on the North, then Mt. Vernon Place for two blocks, then Mass Ave., and 3rd Street/freeway on the east. Though our by-laws do say that those on either side of a boundary line are included in the PQNA, which on the south means one could be a legitimate member between Pa. and Constitution avenues for example. The PQNA does not go as far west as President’s Park and the White House!
BTW, I live right behind you in the Ventana, if you live in the Artisan, which most definitely is within the PQNA’s boundaries (and is a member). If neither the announcements nor the breakfast invitations are being posted, please mention to your site manager or a board member that you would like them to be posted. Also, just email me as I noted and I will gladly add you to my lists. BTW, if you were just curious about the Artisan but live outside these boundaries, you can still ask to recieve announcements; glad to include you!
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
They are undergoing a complete re-decorating this week and next — then they will build a new bar and other structures. By January the place will look completely different. They announced plans at the PQNA breakfast last week. Another reason to attend — good neighborhood knowledge.
