Ovechkin: A 100 Pointer In Our Midst
It’s time to turn our attention to the two teams that play at the Verizon Center (aka “The Phone Booth”) and we’ll start with the Washington Capitals, a team that finds itself 14th out of 15th in the Eastern Conference and in the Southeast Division basement. The offense is working but the defense needs help [...]
Gallery Place/Penn Quarter Building Permit Update (After Hours Work & St Patty’s Day Prep)
We’re concerned about the first update because 627 H St NW (former China Doll building) is supposed to be razed. The public space permit probably means that the sidewalk on that side of H St NW will be closed. And add “after hours work” on top of that and we’re wondering what this all means [...]
More Razing In The Neighborhood (615-617 I St NW)
DCRA’s latest permit report shows that 615-617 I St NW was approved for razing as of 2/15/07. Undoubtedly, this is related to Gould’s 600 Massachusetts project which will be built next to NPR’s headquarters.

Afternoon Alert: Helicopter Circling PQ
As of 5:30 pm, what looks to be an MPD helicopter has been circling the Penn Quarter for over 1/2 hour. If anyone has any reports, please send them in. Earlier in the afternoon at 4:30 pm quite a few sirens could be heard in the area.
Current PSAs Under Review
The PQNA (Penn Quarter Neighborhood Association) informed us that the current PQ’s PSA (Patrol Service Area) is being looked at by the MPD (Metropolitan Police Department) for splitting into smaller areas. The Penn Quarter is in the First District and is part of PSA 101 which really encompasses most of the downtown area west of [...]
Condo Fest Report
PQ Resident stopped by the McWilliams-Ballard condo fest at Halo in Logan Circle today. Attendance was brisk (although Halo’s smaller size may have contributed to the briskness) and the Penn Quarter was represented. The Ventana, the Artisan, the Dumont and 555 Mass Ave all had tables advertising sales. Of the four, the Dumont is the [...]

Green Turtle To Open In April / One Metro Flat-Screen Goes Missing
Just a couple bumps for two of our commenters:
CityLiving writes: I talked to the architectural firm the Greene Turtle is using and they said it should be open in April.
Anon writes: I saw the flat screen in the tunnel at 7th and H the day they went up, and by afternoon it was gone and [...]
