Work To Begin Soon On Former Waffle Shop?
Last week we noticed that someone had begun to remove debris from the interior of the former Waffle Shop (522 10th ST NW). A few days later the windows were covered with Davis Construction paper and the door was boarded up with plywood. Davis Construction paper also covers the windows of the new entrance to Ford’s Theatre across the street.
We’re wondering if this is an indication that the Waffle Shop facade will soon be coming down, and if the west side of 10th Street is soon to receive the makeover the east side is experiencing.

I would love for this project to get moving, but I am pessimistic that Jemal is going to sit on this for a while and move very slowly given his significant unleased space (both retail and commercial) throughout downtown.
here are a few posts on other sites worth checking out on this matter. the second link indicates the Waffle Shop moving to K Street. my sense is that there is little economic incentive to make this project move quickly.

The Waffle Shop location is near, but not in the Penn Quarter area. Penn Quarter is roughly east of 9th Street NW and south of F Street. The Waffle Shop site is in the old Downtown area.

Was the fate of Waffle Shop ever decided? Last I heard, Jemal Douglas planned to remove and rebuild restaurant somewhere else in PQ. It was my understanding that its current digs were temporary.
