Penn Ave Circa 1905
While in NYC a few weeks ago at a flea market on the west side, we couldn’t resist picking up this postcard of Penn Ave with a view from 15th Street towards the Capitol building. The message reads “Greetings Oct 5th ’05” and both the Willard Hotel and the “Old” Post Office Building (then only 6 years old) can be seen. The postage needed to send the card? 1 penny.
Ed. Note: Don’t forget that you can click on the postcard image (or other images on GP Living) to get a closer look.

Old DC tourguides can be a wealth of information. A friend picked up a circa 1910 DC tourguide in a thrift shop in Connecticut. Some gorgeous b&w photos of Center Market where Archives is now, the old burlesque theaters and shooting gallerys around the corner from Fords Theater, and trolley maps showing lines that went as far south as Mount Vernon in Virginia and as far east as Annapolis.
