Poste Reinvents Hotel Monaco Courtyard in Gallery Place

Posted by gpliving
April 19, 2006

The Washington Post lets us know that Poste, in the historic Hotel Monaco, has a gem of a outdoor space.

The best happy hour (4-7pm) deals seem to be $4 glasses of wine and $4 truffle fries – yum. No reservations are needed to grab a table in the courtyard for drinks or a whole meal.

If anyone checks this out, let GPLiving know what you think!

I’ve been to Poste for happy hour (which is 7 days a week, I think), and it’s pretty good. The wine and truffle fries (a bit soggy and flavorless, sorry to report) are indeed the best deal. The courtyard is almost entirely shaded by the building around it during happy hour time, so this place is perfect for outdoor happy hour on a hot afternoon.

Sounds great.

Please look into this – I just heard Balducci’s is no longer opening, that the investment bankers pulled out. Can anyone verify? This is a big one. Cite anonymous source!

Maybe we can band together and get Dean and Delucca, Trader Joes or Whole Foods to locate there. I refuse to shop at Safeway!

I haven’t heard that Balducci’s is not opening, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I think there has been very little movement over at the construction site. I think it would be great if a Whole Foods opened up at 9th & F in one of those new buildings they are constructing. It could totally work.

The storefront is wallpapered pretty well and prevents anyone from peaking into the store.
But our neighbours who live in Clara Barton Condos above Balducci’s can confirm that construction is going on – judging from the drilling and construction noises that they hear every morning.

Anon #5 – you’ll want to check out today’s post (April 20) with an update on Balducci’s…bad news, I’m afraid.

Checked out the outdoor space last Thursday. Good drinks, cool vibe, not crowded at all. I guess someone’s iPod was plugged into the stereo system because they played Motown all evening long. I got there at 6:30 and didn’t leave until 11:30, hit after hit. Motown baby.
