Amplified Noise Legislation For Downtown Residents
On Tuesday, June 3rd, the DC Council will vote on the Noise Control Protection Amendment Act of 2008 (Bill 17-177). This is the Act that would put a limit on amplified non-commercial speech (there is no limit right now). It’s important to note that unamplified speech is not affected by this legislation.
Residents need to make themselves heard this time because labor unions are putting a lot of pressure on the DC Council.

Dear Council Members,
I would like to voice my support for the Noise Control Protection Amendment Act of 2008 (Bill 17-177). The DC Council has committed to a *livable* downtown and we need close the noise loophole that allows individuals to negatively impact my quality of life.
I ask that you treat downtown residents the same as other city residents. To that end, I request that you enact a 70 decibel noise limit when within a 200-foot radius of a residence, a residential building, or a mixed-use building that includes residences.
Sincerely,
<name>
