Bedrock Billiards/Comfort One/Ecco Shoes Location Gets To Work

Posted by gpliving
October 30, 2006

We’ve observed workers going in and out of the future locations for Bedrock Billiards/Comfort One/Ecco Shoes. We though we’d also bring a high altitude view of the fence that was recently installed outside of these locations.

Keep em coming. Gallery Place will soon be the Times Square of DC. It’s looking GREAT. We need more stores and of course we also need our grocery store!

Comment by DGarbs on October 30, 2006 @ 12:13 pm

As a DC native and current NYC resident, I sincerely hope that Gallery Place does NOT become a Times Square. Times square is an overgrown mess–not pleasant, respectful of old architecture, or a desirable place to live.

Please, Gallery Place, do not build for the sake of building or aspire to heights for the sake of height.

I always thought Comfort One was a sign that we are like Times Square.

Time Square? That is so depressing…

I wouldn’t mind going back to Times Square circa 1980. You could get a decent meal for less than $30, but you’d have to step over the homeless. Nowdays, you get the overpriced food AND the homeless.

How did a post about a pool hall and Comfort One Shoes become a Times Square discussion? I’m hoping Bedrock (or whatever it’ll be called) is a chill place to hang out, like their other places tend to be. Our neighborhood has lots of places to go out and party, but very few to go hang out with some friends.

moe pieces to the gallery place puzzle. at least bedrock is local and likable. good riddance to places like coyote ugly.

Comment by Sam on November 1, 2006 @ 8:11 am

Quite excited for all three of these places to open.

Has anyone noticed that not only have there been people coming in and out of the space, but there has been an increased amount of trucks coming in, running, and unloading at ungodly hours (4am, 5am)? Could someone contact Jemal about this? It is very disturbing to residents of the neighborhood, and it wakes up my new daughter in the middle of the night.

Comment by gpliving on November 1, 2006 @ 11:41 am

Anon: Can you call 311 the next time it happens? We don’t have any special connections or have Jemal on speed-dial. The only way things get done in our neighborhood is when an individual like you takes ownership of an issue and follows it through.

That being said, the best way to start tackling an issue is by calling 311 so that there is a running record of an issue.

Comment by rectalhorror on November 1, 2006 @ 1:26 pm

You should also keep a log of when you called and a name of who you contacted. I believe existing noise ordnances prohibit construction equipment from operating prior to 7am on weekdays. Don’t know about trucks unloading though.

Anon – also, call DRCA now and set up an on site inspection. Keep track of names and phone numbers. Also, you can ask the Chinatown Police liason to mediate.

The eraly morning disruption will be temprorary; Bedrock Billiard’s license top operate till 3 am on weekends will be the long term disruption. But, no one blog, from what I can tell, went to the liquor board hearing to protest (unless they have not had the meeting yet)…

Call 311 if there are trucks unloading in off hours. We are a mixed use RESIDENTIAL neighborhood. Let the city know that late night/early morning truck unloading is unacceptable. That is why these places aree supposed to have loading docks. We are not a truck stop area. If they want to unload, at least do it during business hours, not sleeping hours.
