So much of what we write about on this blog is new (or at least new to us). Either a new business opening or something that we’ve only recently discovered. That makes a post like this a little embarrassing, as we sometimes overlook places we’ve been going to (and are completely satisfied with) before there was any PQ to write about. This post is about making up for one such oversight. We know the following may read like a paid-for advertisement - all we can tell you is it’s not.
We’ve been having our teeth cared for by a downtown institution for the last 11 years. We’ve recommended Dr James E. Johnson to people in search of a dentist so often you’d think we were part owners (we’re not). Located inside 555 12th St NW (corner of 12th & F; next to the Celadon Spa), Dr Johnson & Associates is made up of just about the friendliest people you could ever hope to meet.
We don’t know how long Dr J has been at the 555 12th St location but as we noted above it’s been at least 11 years. Dr J is also a PQ neighbor who walks to work; it’s always a pleasure to run into him at a restaurant or on the street. Earlier this year Dr J’s office experimented with Saturday hours, but their website doesn’t note those now so we’re not sure if they’re still in effect. We’ve always preferred weekday morning appointments and try to get our cleanings as early as possible. With a dentist this close you can have your teeth cleaned, walk back home for breakfast, and still make it to work before 9.
We know most of us choose our doctors based on our insurance plan first, and recommendations second. But if you’re in the market for a great dentist, we’ve got the guy for you.

I love Dr. Johnson’s office, especially Andy, the dental hygienist! I work at Celadon (thanks for the mention) and it couldn’t be more convenient. A wonderful practice indeed!
For family practice, I go to Dr. Andrew T. Lee at 618 I ST, NW. (Lee Medical Associates). I have had a good experience with this doctor and he is sharp and very nice (and reasonably priced for those with high deductibles).

thanks for the rec.!! I am always happy to be able to frequent neighborhood businesses AND professionals…i tell folks all the time that our neighborhood is more than just some restaurants & the verizon center…its a community…
and one of the GREAT things about communities is that they support their members.
