Music On The National Mall + iPhone App
The National Mall by BLUEBRAIN. The First Location-Aware Album from BLUEBRAIN on Vimeo.
As we gear up for the weekend, we thought we’d mention two musical activities for Penn Quarter residents.
The National Mall plays host to the National Gallery of Art Jazz in the Garden tonight from 5pm – 8:30pm. The Jazz in the Garden series just started up for the season last week and runs through September 9th. Get there early to grab a nice seat (4:30 – 5pm) and grab a glass of sangria while enjoying the sunny weather!
If you’d rather take a stroll around the National Mall, we recommend that you enhance the experience with Bluebrain’s free “The National Mall” iPhone app. Bluebrain is an established DC pop-rock/electronica band that is taking a creative approach to music performance with this geo-composition. One tip: download this app over WiFi because it weighs in at a whopping 396MB. We have yet to try it out, so let us know about your experience in the comments section of this post!

“The National Mall” is wonderful. I walked from the Capitol to the Lincoln, back and forth between museums and monuments, and was truly mesmerized by the experience. The music – all original and modern – is very, very good, and the choice of tracks for the different locations is spot-on. It’s beautiful, moving, jolly, sad, exilierating, grand, somber….If you don’t have an iphone, borrow one. You’ve got to experience this. I think a new art form has just been invented by some DC boys. This will sweep the world.
