Here’s what we were reading recently about neighborhood news in DC. Have neighborhood thoughts? Leave them in the comments!
Penn Quarter – The American Art Museum (AAM) wins a contest to secure the archives of Nam June Paik’s work. Who is Nam June Paik? If you’ve seen the neon United States on the 3rd floor of the AAM then you know who Paik is. [WaPo] & [American Art Museum catalog – Electronic Superhighway]
Shaw – What was The Space, a club/bar/event venue at 9th and N Streets NW, is now up for rent. [Renew Shaw] & [The Space Yelp page]
Penn Quarter – If you’re a fan of TED, the annual conference of Ideas Worth Spreading, then you might like TEDx which are regionally or locally produced TED events. We went to TEDx Potomac last year and enjoyed it, but we learned that our ‘hood has its own TEDx, Penn Quarter TEDx. The 2011 Penn Quarter TEDx event is scheduled for October 18th at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre and the call for speakers is on. Chinatown – The signage is up at Mike Isabella’s Graffiato on 6th Street NW. [The Triangle]
Penn Quarter (East?) – We reported on the Canterbury ages ago and the project stalled in the meantime (the two events are not related). The Canterbury is the shuttered Victorian apartment building on 3rd at G Street NW next to Ashton Judiciary Square. Now there is movement again – find a report from the recent ANC6C Planning and Zoning meeting and a few pics of the project. [Life in Mount Vernon Square] & [2006 PQ Living Story (w/aerial photo)]
All Over DC – Take a trip back to 1814 to see what the landscape looked like from Capitol Hill. [DC Metrocentric]
Penn Quarter – Good hints on getting seated at Minibar or Rasika or PS7. The last Minibar tip is especially good for downtown residents.[Washingtonian – Best Bites]
All Over DC – We’ve heard this question asked many times over but is it true? Is DC a tougher place for women to date in than men? [Bloomberg] Hat tip: PQ Living reader Cheryl
