Does Your Dog Bite?

Posted by Columbo
July 22, 2008

Perhaps if the dog had been wearing an ID tag Inspector Clouseau would have never been bitten.  The Penn Quarter doesn’t have any pet stores, but one local business will at least sell you a dog [ID] tag.  We discovered recently that Madame Tussauds has an ID tag machine located in their group entrance (10th street side), these tags cost $10 each.

Madame Tussauds may be marketing these as human ID tags (they sell a neck chain for $2) but the tag designs offered are clearly geared towards pets.  Combine this with the limited pet offerings at CVS (and Safeway when they open later this year) and you could almost get all your pet supplies in downtown DC.

I also heard that the recently opened 5th Street Hardware at CityVista has some pet supplies, too, though I haven’t personally seen the selection.

The cageless boarding facility at 9th and M sells a wide variety of pet food, leashes, toys, beds, clothes, and treats…

5th ST hardware, good call #1. I should have included that in my post, Mrs Columbo & I stopped by there a week or so ago. That store is huge, much nicer even than the Logan location we used to go to on a regular basis (that’s no slam on the Logan location, which is also very nice).

I think they had a couple of dog chew toys, bowls, and that kind of stuff.

#2, I’ve never been up to Wag Time at the 9th & M location (I think that’s the daycare you’re talking about) but you’re probably right about their offerings as well. Thanks!

Unrelated to dog tags — I’m new to the blog (great btw!) & neighborhood but — where is the new referenced Safeway going to be and when is it due to open???

#4, it’s the same place as the hardware store, 5th & K, City Vista complex. Opening possibly in September.

Yea Wagtime, that’s it..I should know that since I used to board my dogs there. FYI, the only sell natural and organic foods..so if you are looking for the captain crunch version of dog food (e.g. beneful, purina, etc.), you need to go elsewhere.

I just had a sudden craving for Captain Crunch with Crunch Berries and the resulting purple colored milk. Hooray for high fructose corn syrup!
