E Street, NW Road Work Scheduled
DDOT recently sent out this traffic alert:
- The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is scheduled to mill and overlay E Street, NW from 3rd Street to 6th Street and 10th Street to 13th Street beginning Saturday, August 26th through Tuesday, September 5th, weather permitting. Through traffic will be maintained at all times, minor traffic delays are to be expected.
It seems like a few weeks ago, E St between 6th and 7th was being repaved. No notice was given for that that we know of.

And E St will be getting its own set of bike lanes.
from Downtown BID:
Downtown Bike Lane Network
The Downtown Congestion Task Force identified better bicycle access as one of the solutions for mitigating congestion. To that end, new bike lanes are coming to Downtown DC. In conjunction with resurfacing E Street, DDOT will install bicycle lanes, between North Capitol and 13th Streets, as part of a citywide initiative to make bicycling safer and more convenient. This is the first east/west bike lane in Downtown DC. It will intersect the north/south Downtown bus/bike lanes on 7th and 9th Streets, establishing the first links of a bike lane network in the center of the city.
The bike lanes will provide multiple benefits for drivers and cyclists alike. These include a clearly delineated space for bicycles, encouraging cyclists to ride on the right side of the road and helping to separate parked cars from moving cars, which may have the residual effect of calming traffic.
There will be some minor changes to the street to accommodate the new traffic patterns. In order to install bike lanes on E Street, one lane of traffic will be closed, a center turn lane added and right turn lanes added as well. DDOT studied this change and found that rather than increasing congestion on the street, it could have the effect of relieving congestion at some intersections. Those who have been stuck behind left- or right-turning vehicles on a four-lane street understand this phenomenon all too well.
Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
Another E Street note: looks like Juan Valdez finally has set up their outdoor cafe with a few tables and chairs on E Street. Not as elaborate at Starbucks across the street, but a nice addition nonetheless.
