We would like to take the opportunity to welcome PQ’s newest museum, the German-American Heritage Museum (719 6th St NW), to the neighborhood! The grand opening is this Sunday from noon-5pm.

A sneak peak can be had by visiting the GAHMuseum’s Facebook page which has amassed an impressive 746 fans prior to the grand opening.  We’re excited to see 6th Street NW continue to liven up with the addition of this museum.

Welcome to the Neighborhood!!!! This is a good reminder that we are Gallery Place … and not Times Square. We promote history and art, not big lights and advertisements.

It would be awesome if our neighborhood could become known for unique, intimate little museums in townhouses like this. I’m thinking of how the 16th arrondissement in Paris has all kinds of such places housed in residential-type structures.

GPR and CBD absolutley. I believe the Textile Museum is still coming to 7th Street. It would be great if a lot of different countries, cultures opened up museums or centers; the Goethe Institue is always buzzing, the German-American museum, fabulous!

I wish we could get the Alliance Francaise in our neighborhood too, like we have the Goethe Institut.

“I believe the Textile Museum is still coming to 7th St” –Cheryl. do you have some news to share or is it a “would be nice if it happened” kind of thought.

Comment by StreetsOfDC on March 19, 2010 @ 6:55 pm

Unfortunately, I believe the Textile Museum had to cancel their plans to expand to the 7th Street site. However, we are supposed to theoretically get a Clara Barton museum of some kind in the space reserved for it where she used to have her office. -Don’t think there’s any timeframe set for that yet, though.

Comment by Cheryl on March 20, 2010 @ 12:47 am

Yup, sorry Anon, the Textile abandoned plans for expansion on 7th Street due to costs :(

Comment by Anon on March 20, 2010 @ 1:57 pm

OK, So any ideas on how to get something going on the Clara Barton museum?

I have been thinking a letter to Eleanor Holmes Norton bc its a Nat Park Svc project I think but not sure how PQ citizens can apply pressure. Seems unreasonable that they would commit to project and not follow thru so it sits uncompleted, bricks falling off front step and with Carmine’s coming in will be one of the last negatives on that side of 7th NW.

Yeah, we need to get that Clara Barton museum off the ground! It’s just been sitting there empty for years now. I tried to get some information on the status of the project a year or so ago but could never find the right person to talk to or who would call me back.

Comment by Anon on March 23, 2010 @ 11:03 pm

We need more services for residents (e.g., grocery stores, 24 hour drug stores, reasonably priced restaurants) instead of more eccentric museums.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
