There was a lot going on this last week and here’s what we were reading about neighborhood news in DC. Have neighborhood thoughts? Leave them in the comments!
Penn Quarter – The ramen noodle restaurant from the owners of Sushiko that will be built on 6th Street NW across from the Verizon Center now has a name…Daikaya which means House of Big Pot. And, no, it’s not what you’re thinking. [The Triangle]
Shaw – An update on the anticipated opening of Rogue 24, a restaurant in Blagden Alley in Shaw. Each seating from owner/chef RJ Cooper, former Chef de Cuisine at Vidalia, will be a “24 act performance.” The concept looks very cool! [Renew Shaw]
Penn Quarter – Do you like to laugh? If you do, you’re in luck because a comedy club is on tap to open at 8th and E St NW in June. It will be called Riot Act…very appropriate name. [WaPo] & [Riot Act website] & [Riot Act Twitter] & [Riot Act Facebook]
All Over DC – Is the Chocolate City moniker on its way out? DC’s residential ethnic makeup changes substantially from 2000 to 2010. [WaPo 1] & [WaPo 2]
Penn Quarter – Our neighborhood gets a mention in that very well read and intellectual rag, The Economist, in an article on urban revitalization. [The Economist]
Capitol Hill & Downtown – Leonardo DiCaprio was in town to shoot J Edgar. This site has a Google Calendar tracking various movie shoots around the country. [On Location Vacations]
Penn Quarter – The elephants take their yearly walk to the Verizon Center ’cause the circus is in town. [WaPo]
Downtown/Mall – The Cherry Blossom Festival kicked off its official calendar of events. [National Cherry Blossom Festival]
Penn Quarter – Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC dines in our ‘hood. Let’s hope that’s the only reason he was here. [Examiner]
