Leica Camera Store Making Headway (900 Block F Street)
The Leica camera store in the 900 block of F Street NW is showing construction activity according to PQ Living reader Jon Gann of Mather Studios and DC Shorts (photo credit for above photo). We sauntered over to the Carroll Square location next to Le Pain Quotidien to check it out and the windows are indeed papered over with Leica branded stock. The buildout appears to be a few weeks in and with just under 2,000 square feet to fill, we expect it to take one to two months to complete.
According to the press release:
The Leica Camera space…will include a product showroom, image gallery, and a studio where customers will have the opportunity to try out the company’s finest cameras. The 1,837 square foot boutique will be Leica’s first stand-alone store in the country, although the product line has been preferred by White House photographers and other prominent photojournalists for decades. Carroll Square’s proximity to the National Press Club at Fourteenth and F Streets was part of the building’s appeal as a retail location.
Growing up as amateur photographers, Leica was the aspirational camera we always wanted, the Porsche of cameras with a dedicated following. It will be fun to have a space where we can check out the latest gear and talk to company representatives. It’s hard to believe it’s been five plus years but we recall when Carroll Square was just being built and it’s now nice to see all the F Street bays fill up.
