Matchbox And Hardware Store News

Posted by gpliving
August 31, 2006

Two WaPo articles explain it all:

  • Matchbox’s expansion will be completed on September 15.
  • The same people who brought us Logan Hardware will be opening a store in a building “North of Chinatown.” Expected opening is in 2008, so we think it will be in the CityVista development. Also, before anyone else complains about the mysterious $20 shower curtain liners, let us note that Gina (from Logan Hardware) dropped by to challenge a certain commenter’s misinformation. Gina explains that the curtain liners are $4.99 and they’ve sold more than 500 of them. Thanks Gina!

Thanks for the update Gina. It might seem odd, but a shower curtain can be a hard thing to find when you aren’t trying to drive to a Target in Virginia. Two years ago and needed one, which CVS did not carry, the only one Logan Hardware carried at that time was one that was $19.99. So while you may have sold 500 of them, you didn’t have one in stock the day I needed one for $4.99. Nor did I actually see where there was a rack for one. But I’ll take your word for it.

for what its worth, the bed bath and beyond in our neighborhood sells shower curtain liners (not the 19.99 kind) and a lot of the items one might look for in a hardware store. i’d rather frequent a non-chain local shop myself as well, but this bb&b is pretty convenient for all sorts of things you wouldn’t normally think they would sell, and to me seems a better alternative than schlepping out to virginia.

I just went there for the first time the other day and bought a shower curtain liner! ha! That BB&B is insane! Huge! I swear I think Gallery Place must have a black hole in the middle of it because I don’t know how one building holds as much as it does.
