Fig & Olive Restaurant Now Open In CityCenter (934 Palmer Alley NW)
The Fig & Olive restaurant opened last Friday in CityCenter DC at 934 Palmer Alley NW. A smart design allows the main dining room wall to open up and create a continuous indoor/outdoor dining space. Set on two levels, the restaurant spans 10,000 square feet and can seat over 300 diners. You can even sit on sofas while you eat (photos). Currently open for dinner service, lunch will begin on July 6 and brunch on July 11; the menus can be found here.

More Info On Proposed Hotel At 11th and K St NW
The District Source website provided an update that the proposed hotel at 11th and K Streets NW from the Douglas Development corporation would not have any underground parking and would rely on nearby garages and public transportation options to accommodate demand. This project is an add-on to the existing four historic mansions at the corner of 11th and K.
This corner has been left undeveloped for many years and looked derelict until a fence was erected around it sometime between September 2007 and July 2009. A large wraparound billboard is strategically placed over the face of the historic buildings as seen in the Google StreetView image above.
Summer Lovin’
With the official arrival of Summer, let’s head outdoors for lunch al fresco or evening promenades. Here are a few ideas for Summer rendezvous (assuming no Armageddon-like storms like last night get in the way!)
- Screen on the Green: free, starting July 20 with North by Northwest
- Jazz in the Park: free, Fridays in the NGA Sculpture Garden
- Concerts on the Avenue: free, Navy band concerts at the Navy Memorial
- Al fresco lunch or dinner at your favorite green space, we love the National Law Enforcement Memorial (pictured to the right, E St. at 5th, NW)
- Late night snacks on the hip patio at Grand Trunk (641 Indiana Ave., NW)
It’s True! New Circulator Bus Route Around National Mall Is Running
New @DCCirculator route started on the Mall today. It’ll save visitors that ambitious hike to Lincoln Memorial pic.twitter.com/frNN21exgM

The DC Circulator now has a new route around the National Mall offering a similar transportation service that the defunct Tourmobile used to provide albeit without the interpretive audio services. We’re eager to check it out and to point our guests from out of town to this very handy way to get around the Mall without walking long distances.
The route runs between Union Station and the Lincoln Memorial every 10 minutes and “folds” over itself on 15th Street NW in front of the Washington Monument; see the red route on this route map.
Hours are as follows:
- Winter Hours (October -March ): Weekdays 7am – 7pm; Weekends 9am- 7pm
- Summer Hours (April -September ): Weekdays 7am – 8pm; Weekends 9am – 7pm
Our good friends over at The 42 (Bus) blog did such a good job at describing it that we are pointing our readers over there for the in depth write up on this new route.
