Cribs XXIV: King Of The Corner (It’s A Penthouse)
Fantastic southern and western penthouse view? Check. Washington Monument visible? Check. Rooftop swimming pool? Check. Renovated with upgraded appliances? Check. Two bedrooms and one bathroom? Check. Parking available? Check. Multiple balconies? Check.
We’ve seen many, many, many condos in downtown DC including this one and this unit at the Lafayette ranks in the top three we know of because of the view, the quality of the renovation, the building’s amenities, and the prime Penn Quarter location. This is a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit on the top floor of the Lafayette at Penn Quarter (631 D St NW). The asking price is $699K, the condo fee is $632/month, and the total area is 1075 square feet.
Are you king of the corner? Yes you are!

Menu MBK Closes In Penn Quarter (405 8th St NW)
A sign is up on the glass doors of Menu MBK (405 8th St NW) indicating the venue is now closed and to refer to the article in the Washington Post on the matter for more information. Both Menu’s website and Twitter accounts have vaporized. Menu opened in late January of this year having been repurposed from the restaurant Azur opened by Chef Frederik de Pue in April of 2013.
According to the Washington Post article, Menu never quite turned the profit that was hoped for by investors so the concept is now closed. We visited a number of times and really only saw convenience store shopping hit critical mass in the week that followed opening. Otherwise, the store portion on the ground floor was pretty sparsely populated. We’ll keep an eye out for what comes next in the space.
