It’s Quirky, It’s Fun, It’s The Parade Of Trabants At The Spy Museum
The only Trabant rally in the U.S. will take place tomorrow, Saturday November 8, from 10 am to 4 pm in front of the International Spy Museum (800 F St NW).
What is a Trabant you ask? It’s a car made in the former East Germany (German Democratic Republic or GDR) and is often associated as a symbol of communism. Over 3 million of these mostly two stroke engine cars were made between 1957 and 1991 and tomorrow is a rare opportunity to check out this “Volkswagen” of the Eastern Bloc.
Starry Salute
The results are in. Whether you voted red or blue, let’s come together as a country and pay tribute to our Veterans – the heroes who have protected our freedoms at home and abroad. On Tuesday, November 11, The National Mall (stage at 4th St., NW) will host an incredibly star-studded FREE concert. The Concert for Valor will feature musical performances by Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, and Eminem and several others, as well as host appearances by Tom Hanks, Steven Speilberg, Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey and many other Hollywood celebrities.
Plan B Burger Bar Opens For Lunch Today In Penn Quarter (801 Penn Ave NW)
Plan B Burger Bar, a gourmet burger, beer, and whiskey bar, opens for service today at 11:30 am in Penn Quarter at 801 Pennsylvania Ave NW (ground floor of the north Market Square building). We passed by the venue last night and everything looks ready to go. This is the first Plan B venue opening outside of Connecticut.
The menu [via Urban Daddy] features a whole array of burgers (beef, fish, and veggie), various appetizers, full plates, and soups/salads. The drink side of the menu is separated into beer, wine, bourbon/whiskey, mixed drinks, and non-alcoholic. Plan B replaces the former Manhattan Deli space which sat vacant for some time.
Most importantly for those who live in “lower” Penn Quarter, Plan B Burgers will be open late every night of the week expanding the number of eateries (but ever increasing) open later in the evening south of E St NW.
We officially welcome Plan B Burger Bar to Penn Quarter!

Union Kitchen Comes to PQ
The food scene in DC is on the rise. Not only do we have a growing list of nationally-recognized restaurants along with our own neighborhood superstars, but we also now have an ever-increasing amount of locally made, artisan food items. This is thanks in large part to food incubators like Union Kitchen who provide the commercial cooking space and infrastructure to help great ideas get onto the marketplace. Now, Union Kitchen is collaborating with the National Museum of Women in the Arts (1250 New York Ave., NW) to run a series of pop-ups in the museum cafe. This will be a great opportunity for those of us in the Penn Quarter neighborhood to get a taste of the new ideas coming out of Union Kitchen’s members and help emerging food businesses evolve and expand. The first pop-up is scheduled to open in November.
p.s. Happy Halloween!
