November 6: “Glacial Balance” Film Screening and Discussion At Koshland

Posted by pqresident
at October 21, 2014

An interesting film and discussion, “Glacial Balance,” is coming to the Koshland Science Museum (6th and E St NW) on Thursday, November 6.

The film director (Ethan Steinman) and a scientist featured in the film (Lonnie Thompson) will screen and talk about the making of this film, which includes first-hand accounts of the impacts of climate change on people and communities across South America and insights about the long-term consequences of glacial ice melt. With stunning scenery and images, the film presents a vivid depiction of how scientists collect and preserve ice cores from mountain glaciers and describes the importance of collecting and analyzing data from ice cores.

Admission is $10 ($7 for students) and includes pizza and light refreshments. Purchase tickets through Eventbrite and more information on the film and event can be found here.

Cava Mezze Grill, a fast casual Mediterranean restaurant, is opening its sixth location today in Chinatown at 707 H Street NW. We passed by last night and saw the pre-opening mingling and the sign on the door confirmed that this location opens today at 11 am.

The Cava Community Day tradition is to offer free lunch (rice bowls, salads, pitas) between 11 am and 2 pm on opening day where donations are encouraged with local non-profit partners benefiting from the full take in the till for the 3 hour period. MicroGreens and City Blossoms will be the beneficiaries from the #CavaChinatown branch’s opening. Full hours today are 11 am to 10 pm.
