Editor’s Note (June 11, 2015): Carolina Herrera is open at 995 H St NW (10th and H Streets)!
We’re getting used to seeing new signs adorn retail bay windows about every week now in CityCenter and this week is no different. Signs for Carolina Herrera, a Venezuelan-American fashion designer’s boutique with stores all over the world, showed up yesterday. Her collection tilts mostly towards women but men and kids are not left out of the clothing line up.
The DC rendition of the store will have its entrance on H St NW just east of 10th St NW (the 900 block) and has a stated opening month of October 2014. That’s pretty soon! (Hat tip to a regular PQ Living reader for the lead.)

MLK Library Hosts Maker Panel On October 20

Downtown DC Now Has 178 Outdoor Cafes
The Downtown DC BID broadcast a release echoing the anecdotal evidence we’ve heard and seen for a while and that is that there are now LOTS of outdoor cafes in downtown DC – 178 to be precise which is a 7.9% increase over last year. We can’t emphasize enough how much vitality and safety outdoor seating adds to the neighborhood so we’re glad to hear this news. On to the press release:
DowntownDC BID Now Home to 178 Sidewalk Cafes
WASHINGTON, DC— The DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID) was home to 5,541 sidewalk cafe seats at 178 cafes in 2014, a 7.9 percent increase in the number of cafes since 2013, according to a new survey conducted by the BID’s department of Public Space Management in the summer of 2014. A total of 13 new sidewalk cafes opened in the BID in the last year, adding to the 165 cafes documented in the BID’s 2013 sidewalk cafe survey.
These and other fun facts this year can be easily analyzed from your own desktop computer using the BID’s interactive Sidewalk Cafe story map, created using ArcGIS Online generated by Esri. By using this technology, users are offered a visual representation of sidewalk cafe density and have the opportunity to personally delve further into cafe details and data.
