What’s Next for 918 F?
A few weeks ago, Living Social announced it will be closing its special events and classes business and location, 918 F Street. The company will complete the classes already sold into April and is looking for someone to take over the building lease. What would you like to see go into this space? A new multi-level restaurant and lounge? A hip bar and dance club? A Penn Quarter outpost of a major retail brand? It is an incredible, historic building, with 3 floors of great space and interesting architectural details. Let us know if you hear what or who will be calling 918 F Street home in the future.
Downtown DC/Penn Quarter Retail Opening Report
The week before last we offered up the downtown DC/Penn Quarter closure report letting our readers know about retailers that recently closed. Today we offer up the opening report listing out businesses that opened recently or that we expect to open in downtown DC and Penn Quarter in the near future. Some are restaurants, some are retail, and we welcome all of them in joining the neighborhood!
1) Joe’s Stone Crab (15th St NW) – Joe’s opened to the public on January, 31 and Penn Quarter Living tried it out shortly after it opened. We added an Eater link with photos too. [Penn Quarter Living] & [DC Eater (photo set)]

9) Marriott Marquis (901 Massachusetts Ave NW) – Opening May 1st, the “convention center” Marriott will feature multiple eating venues and lots of new rooms to support larger/more numerous conferences in downtown DC. 10) Sports Zone Elite (675 H St NW) – Sports clothing and shoe retailer coming next to the Walgreens on H aside the 7th Street intersection (photo below). Spring 2014 is what’s on the sign. [Sports Zone Elite website]

music by Jeanine Tesori; lyrics and book by Brian Crawley; based on The Ugliest Pilgrim by Doris Betts; music direction by Jay Crowder; directed by Jeff Calhoun
A touching story of love, hope and healing. In the early 1960s, a young woman travels across the South in search of a miracle. On her journey, she meets two young soldiers who help her learn about courage, beauty and her own self-worth. Jeanine Tesori (Caroline, or Change, Fun Home and Thoroughly Modern Millie) returns with a dynamic score of bluegrass, gospel, country and rock. Directed by Tony-nominated Jeff Calhoun (Broadway’s Newsies).

First Look at Joe’s (750 15th St NW)
There’s been quite a bit of buzz and build up for Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak and Stone Crab (750 15th St. NW). DC definitely loves it’s steak and seafood, so I’m sure the menu will do well. On a recent visit to the bar to check out the scene, it was clear almost immediately that Joe’s is primed to be THE downtown after work drinks spot. Joe’s offers what seems to be one of the largest bar spaces this part of town, historic architecture and a comfortable ambiance. They are still working out the kinks, I hope, with painfully slow bar service that lacked personality and an overhead speaker system for announcing table reservations that is completely incongruent with the setting. We look forward to a return visit to experience the dining room and definitely think it’s worth a stop after work to toast with the lifeblood of DC – lawyers, lobbyists, and politicians.
