Franklin Square – The Franklin School which we’ve followed since 2008 is finally being redeveloped. A number of the usual suspects (developers) are interested. [Washington Business Journal] & [Washington City Paper] & [PQ Living coverage of Franklin School closure]
Downtown – We dearly love our Penn Quarter Farmer’s Market on Thursdays but there is now a fresh market Friday option available. Capitol Harvest on the Plaza runs from 11 am to 3 pm on Fridays and offers lots of great farmer and artisan stands. [Capital Harvest on the Plaza website] & [Farmers/Artisans at CHOP]
Penn Quarter – Jazz in the Garden, the NGA’s Sculpture Garden that is, is back in full swing, pun very much intended. [WTOP] & [Jazz in the Garden website]
Downtown – The sinkhole at 14th and F Street NW has been repaired and closed up. It cost a lot of money to fix and took about a week’s time but it’s done. It was so big, it even had its own Twitter handle. [@14thstsinkhole Twitter account] & [DDOT tweet] & [WaPo]
Shaw/Convention Center – An inside photo look at the under construction mega-Marriott hotel at the corner of 9th and Massachusetts Ave NW. We look forward to having a Dark and Stormy in the lobby when it opens. [Bad Wolf DC (covers Shaw – good photos)]
Downtown – The Washington Design Center formerly located in Southwest has a new home in Franklin Court (1099 14th St NW). We love walking the halls of the WDC and look forward to checking out its new location. [WaPo] & [WDC Facebook page (interior sneak peek)]
Downtown – A little bit ‘o speculation about whether or not Tiffany & Co. will open a store at CityCenter or the Trump redevelopment of the Old Post Office on Penn Ave. It’s fun to imagine! [WaPo]
Penn Quarter – A Penn Quarter resident wrote in to let us know she is producing the Summer Improv Medley at the Mead Theater Lab at Flashpoint (916 G St NW) for a group called the Laugh Index. Improv in the form of shows and workshops from June 7 to 16. Sounds like fun! [Summer Improv Medley]
Designing Windows
Weschler’s (909 E St NW) has turned over their window display to a local designer and we love the look. We assume this is a continuation of their annual “Designer’s Best Bids” series, where each week a designer creates a display made up of goods to be auctioned off. We don’t make it to many of these weekly Metro auctions, but that map has us thinking maybe we’ll place an absentee bid and see what happens.
