The Passion Food Hospitality group, headed by Jeff Tunks, Gus DiMillo and David Wizenberg, announced that they will be closing TenPenh on June 30, 2011 due to unsuccessful lease renewal negotiations. Rather than relocating the Asian inspired restaurant to a new space, the group plans on focusing on its newer restaurants opening later this year in the West End (District Commons and Burger, Tap & Shake).
The Early Bird Gets The Gummy Worm
Maybe this doesn’t qualify as the photo of the week, but it was too good to pass up. This morning we caught the above bird (is that a sparrow? albatross?) on F Street trying to drag home a morning snack. We don’t know if he eventually got it off the ground, but he managed to drag it across the sidewalk during the minute or so we were there.

Penn Quarter – If you’re a fan of TED, the annual conference of Ideas Worth Spreading, then you might like TEDx which are regionally or locally produced TED events. We went to TEDx Potomac last year and enjoyed it, but we learned that our ‘hood has its own TEDx, Penn Quarter TEDx. The 2011 Penn Quarter TEDx event is scheduled for October 18th at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre and the call for speakers is on. Chinatown – The signage is up at Mike Isabella’s Graffiato on 6th Street NW. [The Triangle]
Penn Quarter (East?) – We reported on the Canterbury ages ago and the project stalled in the meantime (the two events are not related). The Canterbury is the shuttered Victorian apartment building on 3rd at G Street NW next to Ashton Judiciary Square. Downtown Summer Storms
This week we get a summer warm up into the mid-90s and that can mean afternoon summer storms dissipating all the energy that builds up in the atmosphere during the day.
