District Of Pi Lease Confirmed, Construction Starts
We have received official word that the District of Pi restaurant has signed its lease at approx. 912 F St NW! Construction will commence immediately. Here is some additional info about the restaurant copied from our initial announcement in September:
District of Pi is a pizzeria based out of St. Louis, MO and will host about 150 seats plus another 800 sq ft of space in the mezzanine of the building. The pizzeria also features custom-brewed beer, Pi Common, crafted by Schlafly, a Saint Louis Brewery.

Love it or hate it, Facebook is a big deal and they’ve chosen Penn Quarter as their new home in this District for lobbying (make that “Government Relations”). According to a release on the Douglas Development (owner of 1155 F) website Facebook is currently in Dupont, but making the move soon to their roomier PQ pad. A Facebook spokesperson is quoted in the release calling the PQ office a “long-term location.”
We are always happy when space for rent in PQ is leased, whether it be commercial or retail. Still we’re finding it hard not to gloat that PQ has snagged a big one away from Dupont.
Now if only Apple had picked us over Georgetown…

Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC. Have neighborhood thoughts? Leave them in the comments!
Georgetown – The National Pinball Machine Museum opens in Georgetown Park. Bust out your shaking moves to improve your score but don’t tilt the machine. When was the last you time you saw an operational pinball machine in a DC bar? [TBD]
Mount Vernon Triangle – Santa draws some attention at the corner of 5th and K Streets NW. [The Triangle]
Downtown – Another Italian restaurant in the works…the chef from Teatro Goldoni will open Elisir in the old La Prima space (427 11th St NW) come springtime. So many restaurants…so little time. [Downtown BID Newsletter]
Mount Vernon Triangle/NoMa – One restaurant owner’s view of the impending arrival of Wal-Mart in DC. [Busboys and Poets blog]
Judiciary Square – Judiciary Square’s Metro stop reviewed. Might sound dull except that you’ll get a kick out of the Metro-Venture blog who’s aim it is to visit every Metro stop and ride every bus line. Any public transit commuter will enjoy this website. [Metro-Venture]
Hill Country BBQ Declares Winter 2011 Arrival
Ed. Note (March 10): Hill Country opening date story is here.
In case there was any doubt when DC’s Penn Quarter is supposed to get its 7th Street NW installation of the Hill Country barbecue restaurant, it is in the Winter of 2011. We’re going to take a conservative stab and infer that this painted declaration means we’ll be putting away spare ribs, baked beans, and Lone Stars some time around March 2011.
On a side note, we also observed that the interactive web design and strategy firm, Blue State Digital, now occupies the office space above Hill Country at 406 7th St NW.
