Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC. Have neighborhood thoughts? Leave them in the comments!
Penn Quarter – The Safeway BBQ Battle heats up the summer on Pennsylvania Ave (9th to 12th Streets NW) next Saturday and Sunday. Music includes rock, reggae and R & B…not to be missed are Trouble Funk and Chuck Brown. [Safeway BBQ Battle]
Shaw – New restaurant will grace 9th Street NW within walking distance of downtown/the Penn Quarter. Groundbreaking is done! [Life In Mount Vernon Square]
Georgetown – The Apple store on Wisconsin Ave NW finally opens. [Georgetown Metropolitan] & [Prince of Petworth] Hat tip: Cheryl
Cribs XVII: Making A G-Man Envious
If you worked for the FBI, you could roll out of bed and into work if you lived in today’s crib. It’s right across the street from the brutalist style government HQ building in The Artisan at 915 E Street, NW (Unit 615). Like last week’s edition of Cribs, we’ve visited a floorplan similar to this one but not this specific unit and can vouch for it’s being one of the more spacious units downtown with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and a den. A few extra niceties include the bedrooms being separated by the living area, a small balcony and part of it is south facing so you’ll get summer sun much of the day. This one’s also got separate storage and 2 parking spots in the secure garage. We also hear there are FBI specials at the McDonald’s…oops…we mean government specials at the McDonald’s in the same block. It’s all enough to make a G-man (or woman) envious.
The MLS number is DC7317050, the list price is $724,900, and the area size per public records comes in at 1,349 square feet. Valuing the parking and storage at $70K, that brings this one in at $485 per square foot.

Our Cribs post series explores homes for sale or rent worth pointing out in the downtown DC area. Although the series usually focuses on the core part of downtown which means pointing out condos, we may occasionally stray to adjacent neighborhoods where fee simple houses or commercial properties are for sale. None of these posts are paid placements.
Neighborhood Pic: What’s On At Market
Even though you need to bring extra green to afford the goods, we love the Penn Quarter tradition of hitting the Farmer’s Market on 8th Street NW on Thursday afternoons for fresh, local products. This photo came from PQ Living’s flickr photo pool – the tag is pqliving.
