Gallery Square (7th And H St NW) Takes Another Twist
Or is it a turn this time? Last week, the Washington Business Journal reported that Monument Realty may be riding in to save the day for the Gallery Square project which is on the north east corner of 7th and H Streets NW. Monument Realty has developed many commercial and residential properties in the DC area including The Eleven, a condo downtown on 11th Street NW in Shaw. This Chinatown parcel is the last undeveloped corner in our neighborhood’s main intersection and has been stalled for some time as the owner, Yeni Wong, navigated both a foreclosure on the property and a declared bankruptcy.

Here’s what we were reading last week about neighborhood news in DC. Sound off about anything neighborhood oriented in the comments.
Convention Center – The photo above says it all – the Nuclear Security Summit is on. Roads around the Convention Center were closed around 10 pm last night and the security fence is in place. [Penn Quarter Living]
Downtown – A few evening photos of Funxion on F Street NW. [Urban Marinade]
Mt. Pleasant – There’s a fuss being made over the temporary relocation of the Mt. Pleasant public library while its normal home gets renovated. [New Columbia Heights]
14th Street – Sorry restaurants and bars who want to open on 14th Street NW. You’ve used up your allocated frontage. [Beyond DC]
Cleveland Park – We’ve heard of sushi bars and oyster bars but cereal bars? [Wonkabout]
Capitol Hill – We learned about free corkage Fridays at Charlie Palmer Steak at Constitution Ave and 1st Street NW. Nice! [The Hill is Home]

Darth Vader Spotted In Gallery Place
Darth Vader and two stormtroopers were spotted Friday afternoon in front of Zengo near the 7th and H St Gallery Place Metro entrance. Is an invasion of Washington by the dark side imminent? We don’t think so but they were handing out promotional fliers for the Star Wars In Concert stadium show that will be coming to the Verizon Center this summer.
DDOT Launches Pay By Phone Parking Meter Pilot
We’ve received a couple of emails from PQ residents about being ripped off at the new multi-space meters. This blogger has also donated $1 to the parking gods for 2 whole minutes of parking (we guess the max time button wasn’t feeling generous that day).
So, DDOT is rolling out a new way to pay for your parking on April 12: by phone. While only available at select multi-space meter locations, parkers will be able to dial a phone number, enter a location code and enter desired amount of time. Your credit card will be linked into the pre-registered online account to actually pay for the parking. Want to add another hour? Just dial it in – no need to revisit your car and put a new stub of paper on your dashboard. We see this new method of paying to park a promising one. But, we also see potential for more parking angst. Sound off in the comments section!
The DDOT press release is pasted after the jump.
