Washington Convention Center Barricade Begins

As many already know, DC is hosting the 2010 Nuclear Security Summit at the Convention Center just north of our neighborhood. Due to the many VIPs that are attending the April 12-13 summit, federal security personnel in conjunction with the MPD are rolling out an inauguration-style barricade around the convention center and surrounding streets.
Early this morning, we observed a handful of forklifts puttering around the Carnegie Library dropping off pieces of gates to form the barricade. As you can see from the image above (click it for a larger version), any PQer wishing to head north is going to need to make alternate plans. Also, expect traffic congestion in the neighborhood from Sunday (4/11) night through Tuesday (4/13) as all of those Marylanders commuting in on New York Ave will have to turn south on 6th St to get to H St to head further west.
If The Suit Fits…

Here at Penn Quarter Living it isn’t all penthouses, diamond rings, and bespoke suits. We also like saving money and getting discounts whenever we can. One money savings event in particular that we look forward to each year is the annual selling of the linen suits at H&M. Ok, that’s not really an official event; but we know that as the weather gets warmer in the spring H&M will offer up linen suits for a short period of time.
The linen suits are inexpensive (approximately $100 for pants & jacket), can last you several seasons, and they require no alterations for the average Joe. Best of all these linen suits can be steamed in the bathroom while you shower, thus removing all wrinkles (without harassing your wife to iron them out for you). Maybe we’ve watched Fitzcarraldo one too many times, but there is a special feeling you get from wearing a linen suit. Especially when you paid less for the suit than you did for your monthly supply of Starbucks coffee.
