PQ Street Being Named After Bud Doggett On Friday
Thanks to the Washington City Paper for the heads up that the 700 block of 10th St NW is going to be dedicated on Friday in honor of Bud Doggett. Doggett, who apparently got his real estate start by taking over his father’s downtown parking lot business, had been dubbed the “Parking Lot Tycoon.” To this blogger, the association with parking lots is not exactly a positive one, but is definitely a part of PQ history. The WaPo obituary also offers some insight as to why a street would be named after Doggett. He founded Heros Inc in 1964 which is a non-profit dedicated to helping fallen police officers’ families. Doggett most recently owned the class C office building at 666 11th St NW.
The dedication of Bud Doggett Way will occur this Friday at 11:30am on the corner of 10th and H St NW.

DC Link Roundup: Heard In The ‘Hood
Downtown/Penn Quarter – Yes folks…it’s police week (schedule of events) confirmed by our seeing a really cool late 1950s/early 1960s DC police car at the car parade yesterday morning on 6th Street, NW. Although celebrations seem to have gotten better kempt in recent years, keep those digital cameras handy. [The (Mount Vernon) Triangle]
Mount Pleasant – The Farmer’s Market in Mount Pleasant is on! [The 42 (Bus)]
Columbia Heights – Local DJs in the house at Wonderland… [New Columbia Heights]
Columbia Heights (again) – Sundress party also at Wonderland. Men included for extra kicks. [Heights Life]
Capitol Waterfront/Ballpark District – Waterfront Park groundbreaking coming soon. If you haven’t walked around this area, go down there with your imagination caps on. It will be spectacular. (And if you have a couple of million dollars in solid financing, that would be appreciated too.) [JD Land: Ballpark and Beyond]
Downtown – The Washington Kastles tennis team are back in action this summer in the CenterCityDC center court for another season. Not quite Wimbledon but a good time nonetheless…we’ll take it! [The (Mount Vernon) Triangle)]

Downtown – DNA Meeting Tomorrow Night – Don’t forget the Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) meeting is tomorrow night at the Calvary Baptist Church (733 8th Street, NW). Tommy Wells, Councilmember for Ward 6, will be the primary discussion leader and the PSA101W police update will also be presented. Representatives from Chapters Literary Arts Center & Bookstore will also be there to share their plans for a new location at 601 Pennsylvania Avenue (entrance on Indiana Avenue) too.
