Ed. Note (Sat, May 6): We heard from Hen Quarter by Twitter that they are opening on Wednesday, May 10.
The sign says it all. Hen Quarter, replacing the former Austin Grill at 750 E St NW, plans to open on Tuesday, May 9 Wednesday, May 10. We’ve seen workers entering and exiting the property and a peek through the window reveals progress that matches the posted May 9 May 10 opening date.
Weschler’s Auctioneers & Appraisers Moving To The Suburbs
Wow…this is news we didn’t expect but we and a few other neighbors received an e-mail Saturday morning about a neighborhood fixture moving. The e-mail originated from Weschler’s Auctioneers & Appraisers at 909 E St NW. Weschler’s will hold its last auction in Penn Quarter on May 23 because it is closing shop in Washington DC and moving to Rockville, Maryland. Again, wow!
From the e-mail:
After 127 years in our Nation’s Capital, Weschler’s will be moving this June!
We would like to express our continued gratitude and sincere thanks for all the support you have given us over the years…we thank you and we truly look forward to sharing Weschler’s next chapter with you.
…Please note that our offices will be closed during the transition and moving time from Memorial Day weekend through June 11, 2017 and NO auctions will be held.
Weschler’s is firmly embedded in our native Washington DC memories from youth through to adulthood. If you want to pick up that Gene Davis downtown while you can then you’ll have your chance at the May 12 Capital Collections auction.
Add’l Note: We learned that the new address for Weschler’s will be 40 West Gude Drive, Rockville, MD, 20850. Unfortunately it’s not really walking distance from the Rockville or Shady Grove Metro stops so you’ll need a car to get there or take the subway followed by the bus.
