Roundup: Heard In The ‘Hood
Mount Vernon Triangle – The big ground floor bay in the office building at 455 Massachusetts Ave NW should be getting a Little Buddha sushi restaurant. A little slice of Vegas comes to the ‘hood. We like this news…a lot…as it will get pedestrians going on that side of Mass Ave. Mmm…spicy tuna rolls! [The (Mount Vernon) Triangle]
Mount Pleasant/Farragut Square – By way of The 42 website, we find another website called Connetiquette Ave describing the 43 bus…it’s the 42 bus that’s got one more. [The 42] & [Connetiquette Ave]
Anacostia – A favorite site covering Anacostia, east of the river, writes about restoring a building on Martin Luther King Jr. Ave to its former glory, including before and after images. Lots of great historic structures in Anacostia. [And Now, Anacostia]
All of DC – One of our favorite websites that tracks both single family home and condo sales activity/price trends in all of DC posted the November 2008 numbers. We’ll let you come to your own conclusions. [DC Home and Condo Prices]
Howto: Getting Free Food (Almost)
With the economy slowing down, we can all use a little pick me up involving some green. This Howto: won’t save you thousands of bucks but you might get a Jackson’s ($20) worth over a month’s time. Today we’re talking about those frequent (insert your favorite food chain or beverage spot here) eater cards. We started a list below for the Penn Quarter…maybe readers have a few downtown favorites we haven’t mentioned?
Bruegger’s (E St NW between 9th and 10th) – Buy 6 coffees at this bagel & sandwich shop and get the 7th free.
Nando’s Peri Peri (819 7th St NW) – A more complicated rewards card where you get a stamp when you spend more than $7.50 at a sitting. You get progressively more expensive awards as the number of stamps climbs. At 2 stamps, get a yogurt. At 5 stamps, get olives or nuts. At 7 stamps, get a regular side. The grandaddy award comes at 9 stamps…you get a free combo meal.
Chop’t Salad Company (730 7th St NW & 618 12th St NW) – Buy 9 salads or sandwiches and get the 10th free.
California Tortilla (728 7th St NW) – The CT Burrito Elito reward card counts each dollar you spend. At $50, you get 5 Burrito Bucks to buy food which works out to be a 10% discount. The website also says they’ll randomly double the points for a transaction or give you free tacos.
Have We Been Asked “Where Is Ford’s Theatre” For The Last Time?
This week tourists & residents alike can rejoice! No longer will visitors have to stand on the sidewalk at 10th & E trying to figure out “where the heck is Ford’s Theatre?” It seems many people don’t notice that the brick building on the east side of 10th street is actually a theater. Adding to their confusion is the fact that the original Ford’s sign is small, nondescript, and easy to miss. Recently two large signs were put up over the new entrance to Ford’s Theatre, just to the north of the actual theatre. These signs may not help those who ask “where is that Lincoln Theater?” though.
The new marquee signs are prominent and attractive – what a transformation for 10th street. A couple of weeks ago pqresident reminded us that Ford’s is set to reopen in February 2009. Soon we hope those construction fences will come down and the sidewalks will once again be open to pedestrians (getting to check out shows and the museum will be cool too).
