Roundup: Heard In The ‘Hood
We’re going a little further afield in the city today…
Between Dupont & Logan Circle – It’s that time of the year again…time for the drag races on 17th Street NW on Tuesday, October 28. We’re not talking NHRA Top Fuel here folks! [Borderstan] and [14th and You]
Navy Yard/Ballpark District – Nats stadium cost just went up. That doesn’t include the net $500K the Lerners (Nats owners) will receive for the stadium being “substantially incomplete.” Perhaps better filed under News of the Weird. [Ballpark and Beyond]
Mount Vernon Square – Absentee ballot strangeness in Ward 2. [Life in Mount Vernon Square]
Ed. Note: Ballot strangeness also profiled in WaPo today with updated numbers.
Ward 6/ANC 6C Election Guide *updated*
The late Tip O’Neill, former Democratic speaker of the House, said “All politics is local” and with that in mind we’re focusing on the local Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) elections and the associated Single Member Districts (SMDs) for downtown. If you live downtown, you live in Ward 2 or Ward 6. Today, we’ll look at Ward 6 with Ward 2, perhaps the more lively of the two, getting a once over in the next week. Airing PQ’s Dirty Laundry
Many of us in PQ live in relatively new apartments or condos with a washer & dryer in our units. But what do you do when one of those appliances breaks and you can’t get it repaired quickly? Where do you turn for your back up laundry needs? We’re pretty sure all of the buildings in PQ would frown upon clothes hanging on your balcony if you were thinking of washing by hand. We hope you’ve made friends in your building because there do not appear to be any other good options in PQ.
Some of the dry cleaners in the area will do laundry by the pound, but that can get really expensive. Neighborhoods North & East of PQ have laundromats, but are any of us willing to haul our dirty clothes around to get them cleaned?
We’re looking to our readers to help us out, what would you do if you lost your in-unit washer & dryer?
Roundup: City Tapes Platinum/Bounce Shut
Endorsed by the downtown community including police and fire rescue, residents, a civic association, business owners and city leaders, Mayor Fenty (see photo above) representing the DC Government sealed the doors of 915 F Street NW yesterday afternoon in a very visible way. This included the taping of a Mayoral Order to the front door of the establishment suspending Abdul Productions business license and a press conference announcing the reasons for the suspension and closure. For today, we’re doing a roundup post with links to the various outlets that carried the story so you can get the 360 degree view. We’ll save the op-ed about this community matter for next week.
