Club Platinum Bounce Closed Down *updated*
This just in…we don’t have all the details but MVTResident, our intrepid reporter on the downtown scene, phoned in to report that Mayor Fenty and Chief Lanier just held a press conference this afternoon at 915 F Street NW to announce that the club operating in Platinum or as Platinum or formerly as Platinum or as Bounce or whatever the name du jour was is closed, presumably finally this time. Abdul Productions’ (the operator of Platinum) business license was suspended (duration unknown) and a white notice was posted on the club’s door. This press conference is not shown on the Mayor’s calendar for today and PQ Living will be looking into this further to get more information. We reported another closing today on F Street making it two such bulletins for the day which we believe is a PQ Living record.
10:15 PM UPDATE: WaPo has put up an article on this matter and we expect WJLA Channel 7 to do a story for the evening news as we walked by this evening and saw a remote location broadcast being set up. WaPo’s article can be found here.
The End Of The Businessman’s Special?
It’s always interesting to see who is coming out of the B & K News Stand (1004 F ST NW) at lunch time. Not that we have anything against adult entertainment, but the guys in suits who come out with their heads down, trying not to make eye contact with anyone always amuse us. If you need to pick up a video (or more) over your lunch hour you should embrace it, not hide it.
Will the businessmen of PQ have to seek their entertainment elsewhere? We first noticed this on Wednesday: it appears that the B & K News Stand is now closed for business. We’ve tried calling B & K to confirm, but no one answers.
Of course we could be wrong about the businessmen, maybe they were all just getting tattoos?
Sushi Roll In Paradise! Momiji Opens (503 H St NW)
Big thanks go out to Mark for sending us these pics of the newly opened Momiji sushi restaurant! It’s located at 503 H St NW. We reported last year that Becky Cafe was being turned into a sushi restaurant and here it is!
A quick search on the word Momiji turns up some interesting info: Momiji is one of the main characters of a Japanese animation series called Fruits Basket. And, apparently, Momiji turns into a rabbit when girls hug him. Ehhhm..
We haven’t heard any reports of the quality of the sushi, but if it is anything like the decor of the outdoor area in the rear of the building, we’re expecting a reality-bending experience! Yes, those are illuminated palm trees! Jimmy Buffet would approve.
Chocolate: The Breakfast Of Champions
We were not sure what to expect from Co Co Sala’s weekday breakfast (929 F Street NW); would they be too exotic for our weekday tastes? After stopping by several times over the last few weeks after their 7 am opening time, we are happy to report that everything we’ve tried so far has been excellent.
Co Co Sala’s espresso drinks are some of the best we’ve had since Juan Valdez shut down. Plenty of espresso so you’re not just tasting hot milk. The straight up coffee is well above par also. The prices seem in line with the other downtown options as well, so it’s no more costly a treat than a trip to Starbucks.
We’ve tried a variety of sweet and savory breakfast options from sweet mini-muffins to savory scones to cookies to regular sized muffins. Seasonally themed items are also available from time to time. (If you like gelato, that’s available too.) You won’t lose any weight eating these things, and that’s a compliment. The all tasted like they were worth the calories.
