Franklin Homeless On The Way Out?
While lunching at the 11th and NY Ave Subway two months ago, this writer chatted with a homeless man named Richard, a down on his luck guy dressed in worn khakis and a white oxford, cell phone on his belt. He definitely was not a benchcamper yelling obscenities surrounded by a thousand bags, a nasty odor and a Safeway shopping cart. He had a temp office job downtown, was working hard to get out of his situation and Franklin School shelter was his home. The takeaway from the conversation? Does Your Dog Bite?
Perhaps if the dog had been wearing an ID tag Inspector Clouseau would have never been bitten. The Penn Quarter doesn’t have any pet stores, but one local business will at least sell you a dog [ID] tag. We discovered recently that Madame Tussauds has an ID tag machine located in their group entrance (10th street side), these tags cost $10 each.
Madame Tussauds may be marketing these as human ID tags (they sell a neck chain for $2) but the tag designs offered are clearly geared towards pets. Combine this with the limited pet offerings at CVS (and Safeway when they open later this year) and you could almost get all your pet supplies in downtown DC.
Platinum Open Again On Saturdays
Walking down F St Saturday night around 6 pm, we saw lots of people crowding around platinum while metal crowd barriers were being set up. We wondered what was going on (auditions? club opening?). Taking a walk Sunday morning we found numerous ads on the ground around F Street for Club Bounce: The Ultimate 18 & Under Teen Nightclub [warning: link plays music].
As far as we can tell this past Saturday was the first night of JetSet Saturdays, which apparently will be happening each Saturday 7 pm to Midnight.
And I Think To Myself, What A Walkable World

DC ranked in the Top 10 (at a respectable #7) of cities with the most walkable neighborhoods. This from Walk Score (Front Seat) a walkability site that calculated the pedestrian friendly cities ranking.
The top three DC neighborhoods for walkers were Dupont, Logan, and Downtown. Walk Score also has information on what makes a city walkable, as well as a comparison of the top 3 and bottom 3 walkable cities.
