Sort of. Beginning this month, Ford’s Theatre is offering History On Foot performances that meet up outside the theatre’s entrance. Lasting 90 minutes, these mile and a half walks talk you through the events of April 14th, 1865 “the most exciting night in our nation’s history!” (James Swanson may disagree with that description).
Reservations are recommended for the walks which are held Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays at 10 am & 4 pm. For more information email groups [at] fords.org
Rain Protection Fit For The Wicked Witch Of The West
This isn’t even a particularly good shot, but you can still tell that the guy on the right in this photo has enough umbrella for about six people. We don’t want this to turn into a Seinfeld routine (“have you ever noticed…”) but seriously, what is the deal with enormous umbrellas?
If the rain is really coming down, blowing sideways, you’ll still get wet. And if it’s windy, you’ve got more surface area trying to get away from you when it hits your umbrella just right. Many DC sidewalks are too narrow for you to pass by someone with one of those umbrellas, and in our experience the person with the huge umbrella isn’t particularly careful about whomever they’re inconveniencing.

A trench coat and fedora might not keep you as dry as the huge umbrella, but sometimes style has to win out. Is there a cooler look than this? Plus your hands are free for smoking, protecting your lady, getting freedom fighters out of Nazi controlled territories…the list goes on and on really.
May Meeting Twofer – DNA & ANC 6C
We have two community meetings to mention this week.
The first is the monthly Downtown Neighborhood Association (DNA) meeting taking place tomorrow night at 7 pm at the Cavalry Baptist Church, 755 8th Street (entrance on 8th between G and H). From DDOT, Emeka Moneme (Director) and Christopher Ziemann (Ward 2 Transportation Specialist) will be speaking.
Normally we don’t point out ANC meetings, but the second of our twofer is the ANC 6C meeting this Wednesday at 7 pm at the Heritage Foundation, 214 Massachusetts Ave, NE. This meeting is of extra special interest because the 5th and Eye Street project in the Mount Vernon Triangle (link to full set of PQ Living articles) will be on the agenda.

2008 WaPo Hunt…Now In The PQ
Urban safari hunts don’t get more fun than this especially when they’re in your own “backyard” (or is that “backstreet”). The idea behind the 2008 Post Hunt is to solve various puzzles woven into the landscape of the PQ which you will have to hunt down and which all tolled will make up the clue for the final “end game” puzzle you have to solve. The hunt won’t involve stealing street signs, hanging out at the 7th Street McDonald’s (please!) nor appearing before Jeff Probst at the Tribal Council.
The Hunt will take place in the Penn Quarter on Sunday, May 18 from Noon to 5 pm starting in the City Center Lot (i.e. Old Convention Center site) at 10th and H Streets, NW. Rules can be found on the Post Hunt homepage and you’ll need the Washington Post Magazine from the Sunday edition (that’s the color publication in the plastic baggie along with the all the color ads and coupons) to participate. The rules recommend that four people comprise the maximum team size with the prizes being vacation packages to the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. We can’t say it much better than WaPo does so we’ll say it again.
