They say being forewarned is being forearmed so we want to let you know that National Police Week starts tomorrow with events running all week long in and around the eastern edge of downtown. Marcello Muzzatti, President of the Fraternal Order of Police DC, wrote an open letter to all downtown residents [PDF] letting them know the following:
My name is Marcello Muzzatti, the new President of the Fraternal Order of Police DC Lodge #1, and the Chairman for Police Week 2008. I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to come together and join us during Police Week this year. From Tuesday, May 13, 2008 to Thursday May 15, 2008.
But, for those who remember how it went last year, he also mentions the following:
In the past there have been incidents involving people who are attending Police Week. We are currently taking steps to prevent any of the activities from disturbing the residents of our community. If you encounter or are disturbed by any of these activities please call 311 for non emergency [sic] and 911 for any emergencies.

Co Co. Sala Now Open!
One of the owners of Co Co. Sala (929 F Street, NW) wrote in to let us know that…tada…they are now open! In fact, we’ll let him describe Co Co. in his own words:
Hello PQ…My name is Bharet and I am one of the two owners of Co Co. Sala. It has been two years in the making and we are thrilled and elated to be part of your neighborhood. I must say that we have received a very warm welcome from this area and a lot of excited residents. Our decision to be here has been nothing short of magnificent. As for now, we are open for dinner service only starting from 5 pm…as soon as we are in perfect shape, we will start breakfast at 7 am and lunch as well so we will almost be a 24 hour operation. We will also serve food past midnite…I am going to be checking this blog [PQ Living] often so feel free to ask any questions and I will certainly be as responsive as possible. Kindly…Bharet
The venue includes both dinner ($7 (bite sized plates) to $30) and as the evening progresses, bar & lounge service – for now, they cited no Sunday hours they cited no Sunday dinner hours. This writer is a fan of desserts and along with single desserts, a multi-course (as in five course!) dessert is on the menu. Now that’s something to smack your lips over!

Artomatic Opens Tomorrow In NoMa!
Artomatic is back in DC proper this year – and it’s close! Housed in 10 floors of NoMa’s Capital Plaza I office building at 1st & M St NE (1 block from the NY Ave metro), this year’s Artomatic is set to be better than ever.
Admission is free to view the works of over 800 DC-area artists and enjoy live music. The event runs through June 15.
Also, our favorite PQ resident artist, will be on the 8th floor in the “SW” section, wall A5!
A Voting Precinct Is Born: Number 143
Earlier this week, we mentioned the DC Board of Elections and Ethics Board meeting considering the creation of a new voting precinct in Ward 6’s slice of the Penn Quarter, Chinatown and Mount Vernon Square. The good news from yesterday’s Board meeting is in and a new precinct, number 143, will be established with the Chinese Community Church at 500 I Street, NW, acting as the polling location. According to the Downtown Neighborhood Association’s website, 2285 registered voters live within the new precinct boundaries and that number can be driven higher.
